NetTrek Simulations Officer's Manual
What are the ranks and how do I get promoted?
While out of character, everyone is treated the same, NTS has established a rank system for in-sim use to distinguish simmers who have been around longer and have better service records. The current system also takes into account member experience in previous groups as a basis for starting ranks. After an officer is assigned an initial rank, he or she must complete a set of prerequisites before he of she can be promoted. Cadets who have completed a Starfleet Academy Course will follow a slightly different promotion schedule. For more information on Graduate promotions, contact a NTS Administrator. The current rank structure for non-SFA graduates is as follows:
Ensign - The lowest rank in NTS. Simmers with little or no experience usually are assigned this rank. Ensigns need to attend at least SIX sims and write at least SIX logs in order to be promoted to the next rank.
Lt Junior Grade - The next lowest rank in NTS. Simmers with some experience may be assigned this rank. This is also the lowest rank possible for Department Chiefs. Lieutenants Junior Grade need to attend at least EIGHT sims and write at least EIGHT logs prior to promotion.
Lieutenant - Officers of this rank have demonstrated extraordinary dedication to their ship and have a lot of experience simming. Lieutenants are required to attend at least FIFTEEN sims with no AWOLs and must write at lease FIFTEEN logs prior to promotion. Some ships may also require aptitude tests as prerequisite to promotion.
Lt Commander - Officers who have reached the rank of Lt Commander have demonstrated their willingness to go over and above the call of duty on numerous occasions. Lt Commanders may serve as XO of a ship and may sometimes command stations. Promotion past this rank is based on aptitude and elasticity rather than attendance and logs.
Commander - Commanders are some of the most essential personnel in NTS. Officers of this rank may serve as a Ship XO or CO. Promotion to and past this rank is based on experience, aptitude, and dedication. Commanders who serve as Sim Hosts may be placed on a list for promotion to Captain on a seniority basis.
Captain - Captains are perhaps the most important officers in the fleet. Besides being the CO and Sim Host, Captains often also have other fleet-level duties and may hold seats on the NTS Governing Council. This is the highest level of promotion possible in NTS and officers may be promoted to Captain only by an Admiral, with permission from the CinC or NTS..
Admiral - The Highest rank in NetTrek Simulations. Admirals may serve as Sim Hosts as well as hold many fleet-level duties. Admirals are often called on to settle disputes within sims or between members. They may also serve as moderators and other posts within the group. Promotion to Admiral can only be achieved by approval of the President of Enchanted RPGs.
