Officer's Manual
How to SIM, pt 1 (Live Sims)
Live Sims are conducted in AOL or IRC chat rooms. They usually meet once a week for one or two hours. At the beginning of each sim, the CO or XO takes roll and briefs the crew on the week's mission. After this, the sim begins and all characters assume their respective roles. For the next hour or so, the sim progresses, the plot develops, and new surprises are awaiting behind the next corner. Here is an excerpt from a real sim:
<CO> <HELM> Helm, set course for Devora III, warp 5.
<HELM> <CO> Aye, sir. :::sets course for Devora III, warp 5::: Course laid in, sir.
<CO> <HELM> Engage!
<HELM> :::engages:::
<<<ACTION>>> A Romulan Warbird decloaks directly behind the ship
<CO> Red Alert! <HELM> All Stop! <TAC> Target their weapons arrays! <OPS> Hail them!
<HELM> All Stop. Coming about.
<TAC> Weapons Targeted!
<OPS> No response, Captain.
After the sim, the CO and/or XO may give out awards, commendations, etc. The last thing the Hosts do before dismissing everyone is briefing their crew on the following week's sim, making any last-minute reminders and announcements.
